What Is a Sober Companion?
Part of every journey of a recovering addict towards a sober life is dependable companions to accompany them as they process their thoughts, feelings, and concerns, in the challenging process of post-recovery. These companions help the recovering individuals transition themselves to normalcy post-rehab, especially in this crucial period when they might be vulnerable to succumbing to drug and alcohol use once again.
A sober companion also makes sure to check on the patient and make sure that they follow through with their alcohol rehab and mental health recovery regimen or residential treatment program. They may also join them during trips wherein they might be put in an uncomfortable or difficult situation. As a constant companion, they also advise making sure they make informed and deliberate choices, especially for each matter related to their past drug addiction.
These mental health companions may also come in the form of sober escorts. Although their services aren't free, they can join an individual depending on the arrangement. They are usually on-call and may be required to stay for days, weeks, or months, depending on their need, and may work closely with friends and family.
